An invitation to friends from George for Betty Woodman's 60th birthday party, 1990: From the Archives...

"Let us celebrate!”—as George and friends did on this day in 1990, fêting Betty Woodman for her 60th birthday at their Chelsea loft.

The Woodmans spent part of every year in New York City beginning in the late 1970s. It was while living in Manhattan, among numerous artists friends and frequent visits to museums and galleries, that Betty’s work took a definitive turn away from functional ceramics and fully embraced the language of sculpture and painting. In her 60th year, she had solo exhibitions at Max Protetch Gallery in New York—where she began showing in 1983—and the Het Kruithuis Museum, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.
